Meriden Seminar on Alzheimer’s disease set July 15

With a mother living with Alzheimer’s disease…this seminar caught my eye and I had to share it with you. Unfortunately, I have a schedule-conflict and won’t be able to make it. This seminar is to focus on emotions and Alzheimer’s disease, Emotional Intelligence and

Alzheimer’S Utilizing & Understanding Emotions,” will take place:

When: July 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Village at Kensington Place, 511 Kensington Ave.

Ron Bowen, Executive Director at the Village will lead the discussion.

Attendees will learn how the brain produces emotions and the way changes in the brain affect the emotions of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

Meriden Robotics team to hold bottle drive

     Meriden Robotics  Team No. 228, Gus Robotics will sponsor a returnable bottle & can drive:

  • When : Saturday, July 12, 2008, 9:00 a.m. to noon
  • Where :  In front of Maloney High School, 121 Gravel St.

                  The fundraiser will support the team during the upcoming 2008-09 competition season.

      The  team is made up of students from Platt, Maloney and Wilcox Technical high schools.

Meriden Open Garden day planned Sunday

       As part of the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program, three Meriden gardens

will be open to the public on:

      When:   Sunday, July 13, 2008

      Where : 1.  Jardin des Brabant,  131 Corrigan Ave. noon to 5 p.m.

                   2. Stankevich Garden, 48. So. Broad Terrace, noon to 4 p.m.

                   3. George Trecina  Garden,  341 Spring st. noon to 4 p.m.

Free Summer Fun Run program

  • Where:  Platt High School track, with a 3 mile race and a 3/4 mile child race.
  • When:   Every Wednesday during summer vacation starting June 18 & ending on Aug. 20.
  • Time:    Starting time for all races will be 6:30 p.m.

This is great! Free exercise! Fresh air! Good company! Let’s get going folks.

 Just a note, this program was started in 1970 by former Platt High School cross country head coach Roy Gooding and was intended  to provide summer conditioning for cross country runners, casual runners and

provide children or adults who had interest in running an opportunity to enter the sport. Wow! what a guy!

City’s National Trails Day, June 7th

  • Where:   Dossin Beach Park on Oregon Rd. across from the Quinnipiac River Linear

                             Walking Trail at Red Bridge.

  • When: June 7th, 10-11;30 a.m.

Meriden’s National Trail Partners’ showcase: Educational exhibits, information handouts and they  are there

   to   happily answer questions on the city’s natural resources & environmental issues. 

   For those who  are coming, got to wear your walking shoes  for the hike and light  refreshments will be offered. A bonus!  free pedometers for the first 50 participants.  This is really cool. St. Stan’s Festival 2 days of fun & good food!

St. Stan’s Parish Festival will take place:

  • Where:  St. Stan’s Parish on Akron St.
  • When:   Today, Friday, May 30,2008 , from 6-10 p.m., Saturday 12:00- 10 p.m.Rain or Shine
  •    Polish & All-American favorites available

   There will be children games, inflatable rides and live entertainment.

   Luck is on our side, with the bright, sunny skies & cool weather, can’t miss this event.

   Hmmm, I can just taste & smell those delicious, mouth-watering kielbasi & pierogis?
