There’s another, healthier way to get up to Castle Criag…Hiking!

Yeah right…I remember when my girls hiked it when they were in Brownies and Girls Scouts many years ago. They actually lost their way down the trails that they ended up walking the rocky reservoir. Fortunately, they successfully made it from bottom to top and back again!

Just considering the “hike” is causing me to sigh of relief grief ;-( hee hee. Just kidding.

With gasoline on the rise and Gov. Jodi Rell promoting “Staycations,” (finding things to do by “staying” close to home), a picnic in Hubbard Park and well-prepared trip up and down Castle Craig without a car is worth our investment, don’t you think?

Thanks to Jesse J. Stanely’s article in today’s Record Journal “To Castle Craig-the hard way”, I just had to add my 2-cents.

Don’t think you can just show up to Hubbard Park on a moment’s notice. Please consider wearing good shoes, and at the very least have a bottle of water, sunblock. And please, do not forget to leave home without your trusty cellphone just in case of an emergency (like my girls trailing off the “blue trail” on the way down). ;-)

To learn more about the history and development of Castle Craig, please refer to Ms. Stanley’s article.

Hubbard Park is one of MeridensBest.com’s 7 Wonders of Meriden. So, enjoy our beautiful park & the breath-taking sites from Castle Craig.

Happy Hiking & Stay-cationing in Meriden’s Best Castle Craig!

By the way, if you decide to make the hike (or have successfully hiked it before), please share your experiences in the comments area below.
